Immediate Dentures in Tri-Cities

Denturist Lisa Lanham with patient

Immediate dentures are typically inserted immediately after your teeth are removed. Because the dentures are prepared before surgery, they are ready to be placed the same day as your extractions.

Eating with immediate dentures takes time and practice. Most patients begin with softer foods and gradually return to a wider variety of foods as healing progresses and comfort improves.

Immediately after extractions, patients are often instructed to keep their dentures in place for the first night to help protect the surgical areas. After the initial healing period, dentures are usually removed at night so the gums can rest. Your dentist or oral surgeon will provide specific instructions for your situation.

Immediate dentures are designed before surgery so you can have teeth the same day your natural teeth are removed. Because the gums and bone change shape during healing, these dentures are considered transitional while your mouth heals. After about six months, a final denture can be created for the healed shape of your mouth.

While relines can sometimes improve the fit during healing, many patients benefit from having a new denture made once the mouth has stabilized. A final denture created after healing often provides a more precise fit and improved comfort.
